Neustadt bij Coburg

Neustadt bei Coburg is de grootste stad in het district Coburg en ligt in het centrum van een breed dalbekken op een uiterst schilderachtige locatie aan de zuidwestelijke uitlopers van het Thüringer Woud. De 516 meter hoge Muppberg, de lokale berg van Neustadt, ligt dicht bij de stad en is een uniek recreatie- en wandelgebied. Veel fietspaden, in het bijzonder de "Iron Curtain Trail" (Europees fietspad nr. 13), leiden door en rond Neustadt bei Coburg. Een modern overdekt zwembad en het recreatiepark "Villeneuve-sur-Lot" dragen bij aan de hoge recreatieve waarde van de grote districtsstad Neustadt. Ook bezienswaardig zijn het Museum van de Duitse Speelgoedindustrie, het Historisch Kerstmuseum en het educatief centrum Binnenste Duitse Grens over de deling van Duitsland.

Hikers get their money's worth on the Muppberg and the surrounding mountains. The Prinzregententurm tower on the Muppberg offers a fantastic view of the Thuringian countryside and the land of Franconia. The International Puppet Festival takes place every year. This has not only earned the town the nickname "Bavarian Doll Town", but also ties in with the old tradition of doll and toy making in Neustadt. In addition, the popular Swing in the Park festival takes place in June in the "Villeneuve-sur-Lot" leisure park and the Rock & Classic Open-Air takes place at the beginning of July. The Neustadt Children's Festival, which was added to the Bavarian State Register of Intangible Cultural Heritage in 2023, attracts visitors every year in July with an exciting programme of entertainment and shows. Other highlights include the cinema summer (July/August), the jazz concert (November), regular city and park tours and the St. Nicholas market (December). The kultur.werk.stadt also hosts concerts, readings, cabaret, lectures and exhibitions throughout the year. The tradition of markets can still be found today in various themed markets as well as in the weekly and monthly markets.
